Oliver Dowden was out in support of the campaign group STRIFE (Stop The Rail Freight Exchange), who were at the High Court today, where the appeal against the development of an International Rail Freight Terminal, or Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) in Radlett was being considered. The proposals have been forced through against the wishes of the local council and residents.
Oliver Dowden said:
“This would be a disaster for us. It would destroy precious green belt, clog our roads with thousands of lorries and after Thamelink's recent disastrous performance, the last thing in the world we need is more disruption to our trains.
“I am determined to do all I can frustrate it and wanted to show my personal support for STRIFE. They've tirelessly fought against this for nine years and I sincerely hope we get a last minute reprieve”.
