On a tour of businesses across Hertsmere, prospective Parliamentary candidate Oliver Dowden met with Borough Council Leader, Morris Bright, at Hertsmere-owned Elstree Studios to discuss the development of the site, the Council’s continuing investment in the studios and job creation opportunities.
Cllr Bright explained to Oliver Dowden how the studios have paid for clearance of four acres of previously contaminated land at the back of the site. This will allow the development of state-of-the-art media facilities in the coming years, creating further new job opportunities for the residents of Hertsmere.
In addition, Oliver Dowden was informed that the success of Elstree Studios has meant that the council tax of each and every resident across the whole borough is subsidised by 20%.
Oliver Dowden said:
“Elstree Studios’ success is helping to create jobs and stimulate growth in the local economy.
“The creative industries are a hugely important part of Hertsmere’s economy and it is great to see it doing so well. The developments I have discussed with Cllr Bright are exciting and should create new areas of growth in the coming years”.
