Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Hertsmere, Oliver Dowden, has welcomed a new manifesto commitment by the Conservatives to freeze rail ticket prices for five years, keeping down the cost of over a billion rail and Tube journeys.
The commitment will see that regulated ticket prices will not rise by more than inflation for five years. This constitutes an effective price freeze. Under Labour’s last year in government, fares rose by 11%.
The price freeze will cover almost every weekly, monthly and annual season ticket, plus many singles and returns. This will mean an average saving of £400 for annual season ticket holders.
Oliver Dowden commented:
“This is something I've been campaigning on and is great news for hard pressed commuters in Hertsmere.
"After the recent bad news of delays and problems on our trains, this is some good news at last. It's is more evidence that the long term plan will deliver for hardworking people in Hertsmere."
