Oliver on Monday met with the Maxwell Community Park Care Group in Borehamwood during their weekly coffee morning.
He was joined by local Borough Cllr, Farida Turner, and the visit saw Oliver spend time talking with carers and members of the group.
Oliver said: ‘It was great to visit the Carers’ Coffee Morning at Maxwell Park on Monday with Cllr Turner. We had an interesting conversation over tea and biscuits. It was very useful for me to understand their perspective on caring issues so that I can better represent them in Parliament.
‘I know how hard they work and how much time they sacrifice caring for partners, children and others and we need to make sure we do all we can to support them. We had an important discussion around changes to benefits and carers allowance and I would like to thank them for organising this visit.’
Cllr Turner added: ‘Both Mr. Dowden and I were made to understand the myriad problems that carers face on a daily basis and are determined to do everything we can to ease their load.’
The Carers’ Coffee morning is held every Monday from 10:00am to 12:00pm and for more information please telephone on 020 8953 4295 or visit their website at http://maxwellpcc.org/events-in-hertfordshire/carers-coffee-morning/
