I know that lots of you are interested in how my meeting with Thameslink went. I made sure that your anger was heard loud and clear. Thameslink's explanation boils down to two points.
First, there is shortage of drivers. Thameslink assured me that they will have 70 new drivers by Easter 2016. Second, there has been a reduction in available lines due to refurbishment work taking place at London Bridge. This means that when there are problems they multiply because there is no spare capacity. This will not be fully resolved until London Bridge refurbishment is completed. Thameslink will though be introducing a brand new fleet of trains with more space and larger doors for easier entry and exit from next year. This will, at least, increase capacity.
So in summary, it's mixed news but at least Thameslink have no doubt about the strength of feeling in Hertsmere. I also appreciate that actions speak louder than words. I will therefore be holding regular meetings with Thameslink to hold them to their promises. They have also agreed to a series of public meetings in Hertsmere which I will host. This will give you the opportunity to raise your concerns directly with Thameslink.
