Following a visit to New Court Place in Borehamwood, Oliver Dowden pledged to champion access for disabled people.

Mr Dowden met a number of residents with severe disabilities who shared their deep frustration and anger at not being able to access shops and public transport in Borehamwood, as well as concerns about local pavement maintenance.

Mr Dowden said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet Michelle, Rosie, Natasha and other residents to hear their concerns and find out how I am able to help them as their newly elected MP.

“I am very concerned that there are still shops and restaurants who do not have wheelchair friendly access, that buses and taxis can be inaccessible and that poor pavement surfaces pose a danger each time residents venture outdoors.

“I intend to champion these issues at Borough and County level. I will also be approaching the local ward Councillors to arrange an introduction to the residents so that we can work together to see these issues resolved.

 “I am grateful to the residents, Gladys Quinn, the Manager and to Stephen and Kemi from Livability for giving me the opportunity to learn more about the issues affecting the New Court Place community.”
