I was honoured and delighted to be re-elected as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Jews.
I’m proud to represent a large and growing Jewish community in Bushey and Radlett. It has been a great pleasure to get to know so many people in the community since I was elected. I will continue to use the role to advocate for community interests.
It is a sad fact that anti-Semitism is on the rise, even extending to some campuses. In this role, I have therefore been vocal advocating a zero tolerance approach towards anti-Semitism, as well as calling out wider prejudice and anti-Israeli attacks. This has included interventions at Prime Minister’s Questions, Foreign and Home Office Questions, as well as lobbying Ministers from the Prime Minister down on issues such as UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the misdirection of British foreign aid.
In addition, I have hosted many events in Parliament to highlight community issues. I was particularly proud to help the work of the Holocaust Educational Trust, hosting local Holocaust survivors in Parliament. As that generation begins to pass away, it is important that we never forget the lessons of history.
It is also important that we highlight positive stories. For example, I very much enjoyed local and parliamentary engagement around Mitzvah Day which showcases how much the community does for wider society.
We are very fortunate in Hertsmere to have a diverse community with vibrant Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and of course Christian congregations. As your MP, I intend to continue to be a strong voice for everyone I represent. I firmly believe that locally and nationally we gain strength from our tolerance and diversity.
