It is a privilege and honour to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Hertsmere. Thank you to everyone who put their faith and trust in me.
For the 6 weeks leading up to the General Election, I was busy on the campaign trail knocking on doors and it was fantastic to chat to residents throughout the constituency about issues that matter to you. I have heard your concerns and will never take your support for granted. I will always work for the best interests of our community.
I am passionate about preserving the things that make Hertsmere such a special place to live and, as I have done over the past 9 years, I will continue to work locally and nationally to promote my key priorities for the area.
I know that many residents in Bushey and Radlett remain extremely concerned about the burden being put on our green belt. After extensive lobbying, I secured further protections for the green belt at national level. Now the Labour government have promised massive changes to planning laws. They have already pledged to reimpose top down housing targets which I lobbied so hard to remove. This will mean large new housing quotas for our area. They will also re-designate large chunks of green belt as grey belt, removing vital and necessary protections. This will drive a coach and horses through green belt protections. Whilst Labour won nationally, they did not in Hertsmere so I will continue to oppose these destructive changes.
I will also continue my campaigns to improve public transport, supporting the diverse local community and our vibrant local economy, and helping to secure investment for our local schools and medical facilities. I look forward to visiting our brilliant local schools, colleges, GPs, places of worship and our fantastic local businesses.
Thank you again to everyone in Hertsmere for giving me the great honour of representing you. I will work to serve everyone in Hertsmere, regardless of how you voted, to the best of my abilities, as I always do.
