Oliver Dowden, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, met with the Chief Executive of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, David Law, in response to concerns that were raised with him about the provision of child mental health services by his constituents, Mr and Mrs Lethbridge.
Mr Dowden said:"Last year I was contacted by Mr and Mrs Lethbridge about the difficulties they have been having securing the appropriate level of care and support for their daughter Kyla. I have huge sympathy for the Lethbridge family and since being made aware of their case I have made a number of written representations on their behalf.
"I was keen to meet with David Law in person to register my interest and discuss what more can be done to support the Lethbridge family. Mr Law has agreed to bring together the Lethbridge family with all of the agencies involved with helping their daughter.
"The Lethbridge’s will also have the opportunity to address directly the Board of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust to make them aware of their experiences.”
Mrs Lethbridge has launched a campaign calling for better provision of child mental health services and for increased support for the families who those effected by child mental health issues. There is a website for her campaign: http://itsnotjustyou.org/ and a Facebook group that has attracted over 1,000 members from across the country.
Mr Dowden added: "I am keen to support Mrs Lethbridge with her campaign and will be tabling a Parliamentary Question to enquire about additional funds for Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
"The support group that Mrs Lethbridge has established for the parents of children with mental health problems is proving to be an invaluable source of support for many across the country and is clearly an extremely worthwhile initiative."
