Oliver Dowden, MP for Hertsmere, has today endorsed Theresa May in her bid to become leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister.
Mr Dowden said: “Today Conservative MPs will vote on who should be the next Conservative leader and the next Prime Minister. The choice will be narrowed down to two candidates. It will then be for Conservative Party Members to make the final decision.
“I have taken the time to discuss this choice with many constituents. I know that many people, regardless of how they voted, feel that the nation requires experienced and strong leadership. Now that the British people and the people of Hertsmere have voted to leave the European Union, this is the most important issue for me.
“Theresa May has been Home Secretary for over 6 years and a Member of Parliament for almost 20 years. As Home Secretary and in her conduct in the leadership election so far, she has demonstrated composure, resolve and determination.
“The choice of Prime Minister is also about the future direction of the country. I have been very impressed to hear Theresa May talking about the need to build a country that works not just for a privileged few but for everyone, regardless of who they are or where they are from. This is exactly why I stood for election to Parliament.
“I will therefore be fully supporting her bid to become leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.”
