Oliver Dowden, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, has welcomed the completion of a legal agreement between developers Persimmon Homes and Hertfordshire County Council that paves the way for Three Valleys Way, Bushey, to be resurfaced. Three Valleys Way, leading to Malden Fields, has been in a terrible state for many years with a number of potholes that residents argue have led to injuries.
In 2013 Persimmon Homes built 121 flats at the nearby Queen Acre site. The construction work resulted in significant damage to Three Valleys Way leading to Malden Fields. Despite repeated assurances from Persimmon Homes that the necessary works would be carried out to bring the road up to standard, three years on, the road remains unrepaired.
The residents of Three Valleys Way and Malden Fields have been campaigning for over five years for the road to be resurfaced but only now does it look like they might soon get their wish. Last December residents held a public demonstration in Watford demanding action.
The case was brought to Mr Dowden’s attention that month and since then he has met with residents to discuss their campaign and his office have been in frequent contact with both Persimmon Homes and Hertfordshire County Council. In early April this year the technical agreement for the resurfacing works was agreed between Persimmon and Hertfordshire County Council and they have spent the past four months resolving the legal agreement. The County Council have said that now the legal agreement has been completed progress should be swift. The only remaining task is for Persimmon to secure a works licence.
Mr Dowden said:
“I am glad that after many years it appears that the residents of Three Valleys Way and Malden Fields are close to having their road resurfaced. The process involved has been unbelievably arduous and I sympathise greatly with residents and fully understand why they have become so frustrated.
“Since this case was brought to my attention I have done what I can to support the residents. My office has been in frequent contact with both the developers and the County Council and I have been in personal contact with Persimmon.
“I hope that progress will now be swift. I will continue to monitor developments closely to ensure that the promises that have been made are delivered.”
