Oliver Dowden, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, last week visited the Potters Bar Dementia Café run by the Alzheimer’s Society and last Sunday lent his support to their fundraising event at the Revive Gym on Darkes Lane.
Speaking after the events, Oliver said: ‘It was a pleasure to visit the Alzheimer’s Society’s events in Potters Bar last week and to offer my support.
‘I had the chance to speak to many of the guests and at the Dementia Café present a well-deserved award to one of the hard-working volunteers who make these events possible. The services provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, in particular their Dementia Cafés are a real lifeline - a source of support and company for those affected and their carers.
‘Dementia is a disease that impacts so many families and to find more information about what support is available near you, I would very much recommend visiting the Alzheimer’s Society’s website.
‘It was also great to drop by the fundraising effort at the Revive Gym and meet Mr Gareth Rowlands and the other volunteers. They clearly very committed to raising vital money to support the work to the Society. Once again the people of Potters Bar stepped up to the plate and giving generously. Every penny raised will help the society in supporting people affected by this terrible disease and their families’
Dementia Cafés provide information about living with dementia and other services available locally in an informal and comfortable environment. A Dementia Café is also meant as a place to relax, socialise and meet other people with dementia and their carers.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, providing help and guidance for anyone affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. They provide information and practical and emotional support to help people live well with dementia, and invest in world-class research with the ultimate goal of defeating it.
