In a speech in Parliament last Thursday, Oliver paid tribute to the work of Hertsmere volunteers and Borehamwood Synagogue for their efforts in providing support and relief to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.
Speaking today Oliver said: ‘I wanted to express my gratitude in Parliament for the efforts of the residents of Borehamwood and the local synagogue in supporting the victims of this appalling disaster. The immediate reaction of people to offer their own possessions to those in desperate need is a profound gesture of good will and I know efforts are sincerely appreciated.
‘Like many others, my thoughts and prayers are with the residents, the families who have lost loved ones and all those who are affected by this fire.
‘I know the Government will do all in its power to rebuild but the collective efforts of local people will make an immense difference to victims’ lives.’

Debate on the Queen’s Speech - Housing and Social Security - 22 June 2017 - 4.13 pm - Oliver Dowden (Hertsmere)
May I begin by congratulating those new Members who have made excellent maiden speeches today? I wish to join other Members in paying tribute to the many people who died in the Grenfell Tower disaster. I also pay tribute to my constituents, particularly those who, through Borehamwood synagogue, have made an extraordinary effort in fundraising and in the provision of goods and services to help those most in need. It really is an example of the whole community coming together.
