I am sure you were as surprised as me when the Prime Minister called a general election. I believe it was the right choice. At a time when the country faces many challenges, particularly how to secure the best deal from leaving Europe, it is in the national interest to have a strong government. In seeking a fresh mandate from the British people, she has the opportunity to achieve that.
It has been a privilege to serve as your MP since 2015. I was born, grew up in, and have known this area all my life. I'm passionate about defending what makes it such a special place and championing what matters to you.
In Parliament, I’ve defended our precious green belt protection in Parliament. Locally, I have fought against inappropriate developments such as the Radlett Rail Freight Terminal and worked to protect precious assets like Aldenham Reservoir. I've stood up for hard pressed commuters, securing £300m to improve Thameslink and the delivery of Oyster to Radlett by 2018. Nationally, I’ve challenged anti-Semitism and campaigned for NHS workers and small businesses.
This election is also about who is best to lead our country through a period of significant change. I have worked closely with Theresa May and am convinced she has the character, values, skills and determination to negotiate the best terms for Brexit and secure our economic future. We simply cannot take the risk of Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister and putting this in jeopardy.
The election on 8th June is an opportunity to back me as your strong local candidate and to give Theresa May the mandate she needs to achieve the best deal for all of us.
