Oliver last week visited Cooperscroft Care Home in Potters Bar to meet with the staff and residents to discuss loneliness as part of 2018 as the Campaign to End Loneliness Year.
Oliver said: ‘It was a pleasure to visit Cooperscroft Care Home last week. I had an interesting discussion over tea and cakes with some of the residents and we talked about a wide range of topics including pensions, the NHS and politics. I particularly enjoyed hearing the residents’ perspectives on politics in our local area and how the community has changed during their lifetimes.
‘Importantly, we had a discussion about loneliness and how imperative it is to tackle the health threat of loneliness in older age.
‘It was also great to chat with Betty, who at 103 was still keen to have a lively discussion about politics.
I would like to thank Cooperscroft for inviting me to visit and giving me the chance to meet their residents and staff, it really was an enjoyable visit.’
2018 is the year of The Campaign to End Loneliness, which aims to inspire thousands of organisations and people to do more to tackle the health threat of loneliness in older age.
