On Monday, Oliver showed his solidarity with protesters against anti-Semitism when he attended the event in Parliament Square organised by the Jewish Leadership Council.

The event attracted hundreds of people, including parliamentarians from all the main parties.

Speaking after the event, Oliver said: ‘I know that many people in Hertsmere are concerned about rising anti-Semitism. This rally sent a clear signal that it must never be tolerated.

‘I was pleased to be there to show my solidarity and speak with constituents. I was also pleased that alongside Conservatives, Labour parliamentarians were also speaking out about this issue.’

Prior to being appointed as a Minister in January, Mr Dowden also served as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for British Jews and as an officer in the Conservative Friends of Israel. Following his appointment, Mr Dowden was obliged to resign these positions due to conflict of interest rules.

Oliver added: ‘This followed on from a productive meeting on Friday with Rabbi Elochonon Feldman of Bushey United Synagogue where we discussed a range of issues, including the problem of anti-Semitism.’
