Oliver and Grant Shapps, MP for Welwyn Hatfield, convened a meeting with the Rail Minister, Jo Johnson MP, last month for an update on the promised extension of Oyster to Potters Bar, Radlett and Welwyn Hatfield by the end of 2018.

However, at the meeting, the Minister informed the MPs that the Department for Transport no longer expected the extension to be completed by the end of the year. The Department is now instead undertaking a review of all Oyster extensions to determine how and when extensions should be made.

This news comes after Oliver and Mr Shapps had, in July 2016, secured a commitment from the then Rail Minister that Oyster would be extended by the end of this year.

Oliver said: ‘It was very disappointing to hear from the Minister that the Department no longer expect Oyster to be delivered to Potters Bar and Radlett this year.

‘In my regular meetings with Transport Ministers over the past two years, I have received repeated assurances that the extension was on track.

‘I will closely scrutinise the contents of the Department’s Oyster review later this year and will lobby hard for the commitment to Radlett and Potters Bar to be honoured. As ever, throughout this, I will keep my constituents updated on the outcome.’
