On Friday, Oliver visited Elstree & Borehamwood Station to see the building works taking place to upgrade and expand the station’s facilities.

Oliver has made improving local transport services for residents one of his priorities and has consistently pushed for an overhaul of Elstree & Borehamwood station to cope with increased numbers of passengers.

During his visit, Oliver met with Mr Paul Best, Project Manager of the site, and his construction team. He had the chance to speak with them about their progress and the benefits for passengers the facilities will bring.

Speaking after the visit, Oliver said: ‘It was great to see the work at Elstree & Borehamwood coming together.

‘Since the station was first built, the number of people travelling through it has increased dramatically, to over 3.2million journeys a year - far more than it was originally designed to accommodate.

‘Upgrading the station has therefore been a key part of my campaign for better local infrastructure and it’s something I am delighted to see being delivered.

‘When completed, this project should deliver a significantly better service at the station for long suffering passengers and is long overdue.

‘I’m grateful to Mr Best and his construction team for showing me their operations at the site in such detail.’

The upgrade comes following the very serious disruption to the timetable from May last year and Oliver added: ‘Combined with my successful campaign for decent compensation following appalling delays, this upgrade is the latest step in my campaign to secure a better service for local commuters.

‘However, there is clearly much more work to do, including ensuring we have a resilient, regular timetable that people can rely on.’
