I am delighted that the appallingly disruptive road works on Harper Lane have been suspended after my campaign alongside residents and local councillors.
This is something that was raised with me by many constituents and I endured first-hand the utter frustration of the queues snaking down the hill into the village. I lobbied Hertfordshire County Council to think again about these works and the intolerable gridlock they were causing.
A great deal of credit should go to Cllr Caroline Clapper, who has been the driving force in our work to secure these changes, pressing the County Council and personally bringing Highways officials down to Harper Lane to see the extent of the problem for themselves.
This suspension is a positive step and the project now needs to be re-evaluated, with new traffic plans put in place to complete the works without bringing Radlett to a standstill.
I also know that that many concerns remain over the general condition of the roads in our area. As a result of my lobbying and that of other MPs an extra £420 million was secured for highways maintenance in the last Budget. I will continue to work with our local councillors on this issue.
