Oliver has congratulated The Commonwealth Resounds on being asked by the Queen’s Pageantmaster to compose a special Commonwealth Song to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.

Writers, composers and choirs from across the Commonwealth will be able to contribute to the song and it will be sung by choirs from all over the Commonwealth during next year’s celebrations. In particular, it will be sung as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons are ceremonially lit on 2 June 2022 in each Commonwealth country.

The Commonwealth Resounds was founded by Alison Cox OBE FRSA, the Head of Composition at The Purcell School for Young Musicians in Bushey, in 2005 and is one of the few musical organisations officially accredited to the Commonwealth.

Speaking on the announcement, Oliver said: ‘I am delighted that The Commonwealth Resounds, founded by a Hertsmere local, has been asked to compose a Commonwealth Song to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.

It is fantastic news and I have every confidence that The Commonwealth Resounds will compose a great song to commemorate the occasion in collaboration with writers, composers and choirs from across the 54 Commonwealth countries.’
