Oliver has expressed his disappointment that the Labour and Liberal Democrat administration at Hertsmere Borough Council have voted to charge residents for their green bins.
For 18 years under the Conservative run Hertsmere Borough Council, the collection service of garden and food waste was free of charge. The £50 per bin charge will come into force from April 2024. It is expected to affect 39,000 homes out of the 45,000 across the Borough.
Hertsmere Conservatives have started a petition calling on the Council to restore free collections of green bins. The petition will be presented to the Borough Council later in the year and can be signed here.
Oliver said:
‘It is very disappointed that the new Labour-Liberal Democrat Coalition administration have decided to charge residents for their green bins.
‘This service has always been free under Hertsmere Conservative led councils.
‘This is the last thing residents need after their police cuts and Labour Mayor’s ULEZ charges.’
