Sir Oliver Dowden MP has questioned the government on the Chagos Island deal.
This follows reports that the government are offering to frontload a £9 billion payment to Mauritius over the Chagos Islands just days before the Trump administration comes in.
At Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Questions, Sir Oliver asked the Minister about the negotiations and the timing of them.
Sir Oliver said: ‘The Minister keeps telling the House that negotiations with Mauritius have been going on for two years. So can he just explain to the House why he is so reluctant to extend those negotiations by just one week until the Trump administration takes office, which may take a very different view of the negotiations to the Biden administration.'
